September 28, 2007

PRESS RELEASE:
KIRKWOOD, September 27. 2007 –- Manor Grove, long-term care residence,711 South Kirkwood Road, invites the public to their Centennial Fair celebrating 100 years of caring for the elderly. On Sunday, October 14, from 1 – 4 p.m., the front grounds of Manor Grove will be tented with entertainment, games, food and activities.
The Manor Grove Fair is a reminder of yesteryear; when Sunday afternoons were community socials, including bingo, horseshoe toss, ice cream, vintage root beer and the unmistakable smell of grilled hot dogs, cotton candy and kettle corn.
Other memorable Fair attractions include an outdoor concert featuring Joe Thompson’s Dixie Land Band, a Classic Car exhibit sponsored by the Buick Car Club, face painting, caricature drawings, and pie tasting. Several Kirkwood businesses are contributing beverages, food and prizes to the Fair.
Classic99 radio will present a stream of classical music and Fair announcements in a live remote from Manor Grove.
“The Manor Grove Centennial Fair will be the largest event of the year for us,” said Dolores Mertz, administrator. “We are delighted that so many residents and businesses have supported Manor Grove in our 100 years of caring for the elderly with dignity. It just goes to show that some things have not changed since 1907. Kirkwood is still gathering as a community to pitch in and care for others.”
Manor Grove’s Centennial Fair is the home’s second largest community event since July to commemorate a milestone in the history of the residence.
In July, Manor Grove kicked off its Centennial year with a huge birthday bash that welcomed more than 200 guests. Still today, the 8-foot birthday cake with dusk- to-dawn multi-colored light bulbs remains on display in the front lawn.
Since 1907, Manor Grove, formerly the Old Folks Home, has set the standard in providing quality long-term care with dignity. For more information on Manor Grove’s Centennial Fair, call Penny at 314-965-0864.
